Assassins.. Serial Killers... Corrupt Cops
Assassins.. Serial Killers... Corrupt Cops

Assassins...Serial Killers...Corrupt Cops...is a rundown of the life of one of the first women to break into the male-only profession of news reporting. She spent some 30 years interviewing the famous and infamous. Some of her stories have made federal law, some have brought criminals to justice and others have sent them to death row. She has won numerous state and national awards and has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. She also has been cited for her contributions to journalism by the California State Legislature, the City and County of Los Angeles, the Criminal Courts Bar Association and the Society of Professional Journalists, among others. Many of her stories have been read into the Congressional Record.

She wrote of Charlie Manson, who masterminded the killing of Actress Sharon Tate and six others in two-days of terror in Los Angeles, would talk to only one reporter during his marathon trial and she was the one, Sara Jane Moore, the would-be assassin of then-president Gerald Ford.

The final chapter of her journalistic career came when she came to the defense of a young Black athlete, found hanging in a cell at the Signal Hill Police station. "Suicide" said police. A Coroner's Jury said "no" and ruled it "Death at the hands of another" She found witnesses to challenge the police accounts but pressure from business interests in the city who didn't like the stigma and subsequent public outcry trumped justice. Her stories were being withheld, her sources challenged and she was "reassigned". She didn't wait to find out where the new assignment was. She walked out.

Blood on Their Hands: Murder, Corruption, and the Fall

SIGNED BY MANDY MATNEY

The highly anticipated inside look at the collapse of the Murdaugh dynasty by the celebrated investigative journalist and creator of the #1 hit Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Mandy Matney.

Years before the name Alex Murdaugh was splashed across every major media outlet in America, local South Carolina journalist Mandy Matney had an instinct that something wasn’t right in the Lowcountry. The powerful Murdaugh dynasty had dominated rural South Carolina for generations. No one dared to cross them.

When Mandy and her reporting partner Liz Farrell looked closer at a fatal boat crash involving the storied family’s teenage son Paul, they began to uncover a web of mysteries surrounding the deaths of the Murdaughs’ long-time housekeeper and a young man found slain years earlier on a backcountry road. Just as their investigations were unfolding, the brutal double murder of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh rocketed Alex Murdaugh onto the international stage.

Bonnie and Clyde (The Making of a Legend)
Bonnie and Clyde (The Making of a Legend)

Bonnie and Clyde may be the most notorious--and celebrated--outlaw couple America has ever known. This is the true story of how they got that way.

Bonnie and Clyde: we've been on a first name basis with them for almost a hundred years. Immortalized in movies, songs, and pop culture references, they are remembered mostly for their storied romance and tragic deaths. But what was life really like for Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker in the early 1930s? How did two dirt-poor teens from west Texas morph from vicious outlaws to legendary couple? And why?

Award-winning author Karen Blumenthal devoted months to tracing the footsteps of Bonnie and Clyde, unearthing new information and debunking many persistent myths. The result is an impeccably researched, breathtaking nonfiction tale of love, car chases, kidnappings, and murder set against the backdrop of the Great Depression.

Death's Acre: (Inside the Legendary Forensic Lab)
Death's Acre: (Inside the Legendary Forensic Lab)

On a patch of land in the Tennessee hills, human corpses decompose in the open air, aided by insects, bacteria, and birds, unhindered by coffins or mausoleums. This is Bill Bass’s “Body Farm,” where nature takes its course as bodies buried in shallow graves, submerged in water, or locked in car trunks serve the needs of science and the cause of justice.

In Death’s Acre, Bass invites readers on an unprecedented journey behind the gates of the Body Farm where he revolutionized forensic anthropology. A master scientist and an engaging storyteller, Bass reveals his most intriguing cases for the first time. He revisits the Lindbergh kidnapping and murder, explores the mystery of a headless corpse whose identity astonished police, divulges how the telltale traces of an insect sent a murderous grandfather to death row—and much more.

Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde
Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde

Previous books and films have emphasized the supposed glamour of America's most notorious criminal couple, thus contributing to ongoing mythology. The real story is completely different—and far more fascinating.

With newly discovered material, bestselling author Jeff Guin tells the real tale of two kids from a filthy Dallas slum who fell in love and then willingly traded their lives for a brief interlude of excitement and, more importantly, fame. The timing for their first heist could not have been better, when most Americans, reeling from the Great Depression, were desperate for escapist entertainment. Thanks to newsreels, true crime magazines, and new-fangled wire services that transmitted scandalous photos of Bonnie smoking a cigar to every newspaper in the nation, the Barrow Gang members almost instantly became household names. In the minds of the public, they were cool, calculating bandits who robbed banks and killed cops with equal impunity.

Nothing could have been further from the truth. Clyde and Bonnie were perhaps the most inept crooks ever, and their two-year crime spree was as much a reign of error as it was of terror. Lacking the sophistication to plot robberies of big-city banks, the Barrow Gang preyed mostly on small mom-and-pop groceries and service stations. Even at that, they often came up empty-handed and were reduced to breaking into gum machines for meal money. Both were crippled, Clyde from cutting off two of his toes while in prison and Bonnie from a terrible car crash caused by Clyde's reckless driving. Constantly on the run from the law, they lived like animals, camping out in their latest stolen car, bathing in creeks, and dining on cans of cold beans and Vienna sausages. Yet theirs was a genuine love story. Their devotion to each other was as real as their overblown reputation as criminal masterminds was not.

Now, thanks in great part to surviving Barrow and Parker family members and collectors of criminal memorabilia who provided Jeff Guinn with access to never-before-published material, we finally have the real story of Bonnie and Clyde and their troubled times, delivered with cinematic sweep and unprecedented insight by a masterful storyteller.
